How Shopify fees work in 2026

The Shopify plan is $105/month with 2.6% + 30¢. The Advanced plan is $399/month with 2.4% + 30¢ and adds features like lower card rates for third-party gateways.
If you use Shopify Payments (the default), those rates apply. If you switch to a third-party gateway like Authorize.net or PayPal, Shopify adds an extra 2% on top of the gateway's own fee - unless you are on the Advanced plan, where that surcharge drops to 0.5%.
Which plan makes sense
On low revenue, the Basic plan is almost always the right call because the higher transaction rate is more than offset by the lower subscription. The crossover point where upgrading saves money depends on your transaction size, but typically lands around $8-15K/month for the Shopify plan and $40K+/month for Advanced.
